Harboro moulds components in every commercially available rubber polymer, from Natural rubber and EPDM to Nitrile, Silicone and Viton®. All our products are custom moulded to designs provided by, or developed with, our customers. Our staff have extensive skills in both design and manufacture, and we have our own in-house rubber chemists, rubber engineers, and a development laboratory. There are alternative names for many polymers, so don’t be confused if something you are looking for isn’t listed. Our facility can work with all commercially available rubber polymers and mould components from a few millimetres to 750mm in size (occasionally bigger). We manufacture predominantly in larger quantities, from 100s for capital goods, 1,000s for industrial goods, to millions for consumer and automotive goods, and we export to over 30 countries worldwide. Materials we work with include

  • Natural Rubber — high resilience, tensile strength and abrasion resistance; ideal for anti-vibration mounts and general-purpose seals.
  • SBR, Neoprene (Polychloroprene) — good abrasion and weather resistance with moderate oil and chemical resistance; a cost-effective general-purpose option.
  • EPDM — excellent weathering, ozone, UV and steam resistance; the standard choice for outdoor seals and water/steam applications.
  • Nitrile (NBR) — strong resistance to oils, fuels and hydraulic fluids; the default for automotive and industrial sealing.
  • Acrylic (ACM) — good resistance to hot oils and oxidation at elevated temperatures; suited to automotive drivetrain seals.
  • Hydrogenated Nitrile (Therban®) — enhanced heat, oil and wear resistance over standard nitrile; for demanding automotive and oilfield use.
  • Fluorocarbon (Viton®) — high-temperature and broad chemical resistance; specified for aggressive fluids and high-heat environments.
  • Fluorosilicone rubber — combines silicone’s temperature range with fuel and oil resistance; common in aerospace fuel systems.
  • Ethylene Acrylic (Vamac®) — good heat, oil and weather resistance in a mid-range temperature band; widely used in automotive.
  • Epichlorohydrin (ECO) — excellent fuel and oil resistance with low gas permeability; suited to fuel-system components.
  • Butyl — very low gas and moisture permeability; the choice for air seals, diaphragms and vibration damping.
  • Silicone — extreme temperature range with good flexibility; used where heat and cold resistance matter most.

Rubber bonding, co-moulding and over-moulding

Within the group, we have a specialist rubber bonding facility and can bond rubber to metals, plastics, ceramics, and other rubber materials. In fact, we can bond to almost any material that can withstand the temperatures and pressure. Our innovative approach even allows us to overmould special elastomers with inserts that have low melt temperatures. We can offer an assembly service where appropriate. Harboro can mould multiple compounds/inserts with different properties, hardness, or colours, and overmould them onto other parts, such as wire assemblies.

Machinery

We have a wide range of moulding equipment suited to different sizes and quantities. We have recently bought and installed two new Rep 250t injection moulding machines and two further 500t Tung Yu presses. In addition to our original DOSS vision inspection machine, we have commissioned a new Doss Lite D HD inspection camera to provide an advanced automated vision process. These new machines complement the existing range of equipment already on site.
