Design Engineer (Product and Process)

Continued growth has resulted in the creation of a new exciting and challenging position within the company.

The main focus will be on technical capability covering part design, tool design and process engineering. The role will include support for the Manufacturing and Business Development Teams in the introduction of new business by providing project management and process optimisation expertise for current and prospective customers.

The position would ideally suit an enthusiastic focused individual who will thrive in a dynamic and high achievement team. The post will suit someone with experience within the rubber or related industries with proven qualifications or training in CAD, FEA and Process Engineering.  This demanding role will be project based and require a meticulous approach to detail and accurate timely project planning. Qualifications in Polymer Technology would also support and contribute towards the success of this key engineering role within the company.

Projects – From concept to mass production.

Design – Supporting customers with product design expertise.

Tooling- Designing and or specifying tooling enabling manufacture to exacting standards

Process- Defining, introducing and optimizing processes

Technology – Introducing automated and robotic technology to increase efficiency for existing and new products.

Trainee Materials and Process Technician                          

The Job 

We require a trainee technician to support our planned growth.  Working within a small laboratory team, the role requires you to maintain and enhance the laboratory, manufacturing and calibration systems. In-conjunction with the engineering team, you will transition sales enquiries into production by developing rubber compounds and implement manufacturing processes.  You will analyse samples, investigate failures and implement corrective actions.  The successful candidate will study part-time, on occasion outside of work hours, to aid your development within the role.  The position is full-time and permanent.  The company office hours are 8am to 5:15pm Mon – Thurs, and 8am to 1pm on Friday.  Additional working hours may be required.

The Responsibilities 

· Creating and improving rubber compound formulae.

· Calibrating equipment and maintaining the calibration system.

· Metrology of components and maintaining measurement systems. 

· Creating and maintaining standard operating procedures and safety datasheets.

· Creating and maintaining risk and COSHH assessments.

· Reviewing and filing CofC’s, CofA’s for incoming goods.

· Testing products and materials – chemical and physical tests.    

· Managing the materials database.

· Rubber process engineering.

· Laboratory mixing and moulding.

· Programming test equipment.

The Skills and Qualities Expected

Laboratory Technician                                                                                  

The Job 

Due to an impending retirement we have a vacancy for a Laboratory Technician.  Working within the company laboratory, we require your skills to verify the quality of our materials and products.  Working closely with the production and quality departments, the role requires you to maintain and enhance the laboratory test systems.  You will interpret technical drawings and documents, test to defined standards and analyse the data that you generate.  The majority of the testing is physical and thermal analysis, supplemented by some spectral and chemical analysis.  The position is full-time and permanent, and the salary will be commensurate with your skill level.  The company office hours are 8am to 5:15pm Mon – Thurs, and 8am to 1pm on Friday.  Additional working hours may be required.

The Responsibilities 

·  Maintaining test systems.

· Physical testing of products and materials.       

· Maintaining calibration systems and equipment.

· Metrology of components and maintaining measurement systems. 

· Reviewing and filing CofC’s, CofA’s for incoming goods.

· Laboratory mixing and moulding. 

· Routine maintenance and calibration of test equipment.

· General housekeeping and replenishing laboratory supplies.

· Archiving test specimens and test reports.

The Skills and Qualities Expected

· GCSE Minimum grade D in English, Mathematics and Science subjects.

· The successful candidate must have a thorough and methodical working manner.  Attention to detail is essential.

· A competent user of Microsoft Office software, with good administrative skills.

· Proven experience and success in a similar role is desirable. 

 

 

Materials and Process Technologist                                                                     

The Job 

Due to a recent promotion we have a vacancy for a Materials and Process Technologist. Working within the company laboratory, we require your knowledge and expertise of elastomeric materials to support planned sales growth.  The role requires you to maintain and enhance the laboratory, manufacturing and calibration systems. In-conjunction with the engineering team, you will transition sales enquiries into production by developing rubber compounds and implementing manufacturing processes.  You will analyse samples, investigate failures and implement corrective actions.  Part of the role requires you to audit and monitor the performance of our compound suppliers.  Therefore, periodic travel within the UK may be required.  The position is full-time and permanent, and the salary will be commensurate with your record of success in similar roles.  The company office hours are 8am to 5:15pm Mon – Thurs, and 8am to 1pm on Friday.  Additional working hours may be required.

The Responsibilities 

· Creating and improving rubber compound formulae.

· Calibrating equipment and maintaining the calibration system.

· Metrology of components and maintaining measurement systems. 

· Creating and maintaining standard operating procedures and safety datasheets.

· Creating and maintaining risk and COSHH assessments.

· Reviewing and filing CofC’s, CofA’s for incoming goods.

· Testing products and materials – chemical and physical tests.    

· Managing the materials database.

· Completing supplier development tasks such as technical audits, and applying problem solving techniques to supplier quality issues.

·  Rubber process engineering.

· Laboratory mixing and moulding.

· Programming test equipment.

· Attending cross-functional team meetings to provide materials advice and support.

The Skills and Qualities Expected

· A tertiary qualification in a materials science or engineering subject, and proven experience and success in a similar role.

· A proficient user of Microsoft Office software, with good project management skills.  Ideally you will be an experienced writer of technical reports.

· The successful candidate must be a logical thinker with an analytical approach to problem solving.  You will enjoy improving systems and processes.

· An in-depth knowledge of compound line call outs and international test standards relating to rubber testing is desirable.

· Experience of working to the guidelines of REACH, IMDS and IATF 16949 is desirable.  Ideally you will have knowledge and experience of spectral and thermal analysis, in particular FTIR and TGA.
