Rubber Engineering Expertise
At Harboro, the majority (around 80%) of products are manufactured at our own UK factory. We produce a vast range of rubber mouldings for all sectors of industry and in all commercially available rubber materials. We also provide a full service in rubber bonded parts, including bonding to metals, plastics and ceramics.
Engineering in rubber (link to pdf)
All our products are custom moulded to designs provided by, or developed with, our customers. Our staff have extensive skills both in design and in manufacture and we have our own in house rubber chemists, rubber engineers and development laboratory. There are alternative names for many polymers, so don’t be confused if something is not listed that you are looking for. Contact us to discuss your requirements and we’ll advise you on the correct materials.
Materials we work with include:
- Natural Rubber
- SBR, Neoprene (Polychloroprene)
- Ethylene Acrylic (Vamac®)
- Hydrogenated Nitrile (Therban®)
- Fluorocarbon (Viton®)
- Fluorosilicone rubber
- Hypalon®, Vamac®, Viton® are registered trademarks of Du Pont Performance Elastomers.
- Therban is a registered trademark of LANXESS Corporation.
Sizes and quantities
Our facility can work with all commercially available rubber polymers and mould components from a few millimetres to 750mm in size (occasionally bigger). We manufacture predominantly in larger quantities from 100’s for capital goods, 1,000’s for industrial goods; to millions for consumer and automotive goods and we export to over 30 countries worldwide. As a leading supplier to industry, our service may not be compatible to small scale operators.
Rubber bonding, co-moulding and over-moulding
Within the group we have a specialist rubber bonding facility and can bond rubber to metals, plastics, ceramics or other rubber materials. In fact we can bond to almost any material that can withstand the temperatures and pressure. Our innovative approach even allows us to overmould special elastomers with inserts that have low melt temperatures. We are able to offer an assembly service where it is appropriate to do so. Harboro can mould multiple compounds/inserts where different properties, hardness or colours are required and overmould to other parts such as wire assemblies.
We have a wide range of moulding equipment suited to different sizes and quantities. We have recently bought and installed two new Rep 250t injection moulding machines and two further 500t Tung Yu presses. In addition to our original DOSS vision inspection machine, we have commissioned a new Doss Lite D HD inspection camera to provide an advanced automated vision process. These new machines complement the existing range of equipment already on site.
